Horsegram / Kollu Chutney

Ingredients to make Horsegram / Kollu Chutney

  • Kollu/Horse gram-1\4 cup
  • Red chilly-2 or 3 (adjust)
  • Coconut pieces-2 tbsp
  • Ginger- 1 inch piece
  • Tamarind-small gooseberry size
  • Onion-1 small
  • Jeera-1\2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • To temper: oil mustard & curry leaves

How to make Horsegram / Kollu Chutney

  1. Dry roast the kollu first till a nice aroma comes then transfer it to a plate.
  2. Then in the same pan add coconut pieces,jeera and red chilly and roast for some time.Lastly add tamarind give a mix.
  3. Add chopped onion ,dry roast for a while and switch off.
  4. Cool everything and grind to a fine paste with the required amount of salt ,ginger and some water.
  5. Heat a little oil,add mustard seeds and curry leaves.Pour tempering over prepared chutney. Serve for hot idli or dosa.
My Tip: You can add garlic if you wish. 2.You can even avoid onion and make this chutney. 3.Can roast a tsp of channa dal/kadalai paruppu and grind along with it.
