ABOUT Muaan pitha RECIPE

Muaan pitha is a traditional odia pitha recipe made mostly in the Raja festival in every home. It is nothing but a grand idli with stuffing. It is so tasty and healthy also.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Urad dal -1cup
  2. Rice-2cup
  3. salt as per taste
  4. For stuffing:
  5. Coconut-1 (grated coconut -1/2, sliced -1/2)
  6. Freshly prepared Chhena/cottage cheese-from 1/2liter milk
  7. Cardamom powder-1/2tbsp
  8. Jaggery-1/2cup

Instructions

  1. Soak the urad dal and rice separately for approximately 4hours.
  2. Make a fine paste of both the ingredients separately.
  3. Mix the urad dal paste in your hand for some time for which air bubbles form and air pass through it for which the pitha must be soft and puffy.
  4. Then mix both the paste properly and cover it for 1-2hours.
  5. Mix salt in the batter.
  6. In the mean time make the stuffing.
  7. Put a pan on the gas stove and add jaggery to it.
  8. When it starts melting add all the stuffing ingredients to it.
  9. Cook it till it becomes dry.
  10. Take porous pot like this.
  11. Put a wet cloth over it and place the batter and stuffing in layer pattern.
  12. Place a heavy bottomed vessel with water on the gas stove and the pot over it and cover it with a lid.
  13. Steam it for 5min in high flame and then in low flame approximately for 45-50minutes.
  14. Insert a tooth pick to check it whether it cook or not. If it comes with clear then it completely done.
  15. Now the muaan pitha is ready and cut into small pieces and enjoy it.
