Five Spice Flavoured Stuffed Cottage Cheese Balls

Ingredients to make Five Spice Flavoured Stuffed Cottage Cheese Balls

  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2-3 tsp corn starch
  • 2-3 tbsp bread crumbs for binding and more for rolling
  • 250 gms Cottage Cheese/paneer, grated or crumbled with hand
  • 3/4 tsp five spice powder
  • 1 large plum, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp crushed black pepper
  • 1/2 inch ginger, grated
  • Salt to taste

How to make Five Spice Flavoured Stuffed Cottage Cheese Balls

  1. In the cottage cheese add salt to taste, ginger, five spice powder and mix.
  2. Add bread crumbs gradually and mix. Make a soft dough which is smooth.
  3. Heat the oil.
  4. Take a very small portion of the dough and smoothen it to make a ball and tip it into the hot oil. If it fragments or scatters out, the dough needs more binding, else they are ready to get fried.
  5. Divide the dough into 15-16 equal portions. Make small balls.
  6. Roll the balls in cornstarch and then dip in water. The cornstarch adds another coat to the balls which prevents their breakage plus it helps absorb less oil too.
  7. Roll the balls in bread crumbs and then deep fry in hot oil on a medium to high flame till golden in colour.
  8. Remove on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil.
  9. Serve hot with Chinese Plum Sauce.

My Tip:

Serve this with Chinese Plum Sauce. The recipe to which can be checked in cookbooks under my profile. To make it using low oil it can be air fried or made in an Appe pan using less oil.
