ABOUT Five Spice Flavoured Stuffed Cottage Cheese Balls RECIPE

Plums and five spice really compliment each other and that what makes this starter unusual. The crunchy crust and the soft stuffing provide a unique contrast to the preparation.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Oil for deep frying
  2. 1 cup of water
  3. 2-3 tsp corn starch
  4. 2-3 tbsp bread crumbs for binding and more for rolling
  5. 250 gms Cottage Cheese/paneer, grated or crumbled with hand
  6. 3/4 tsp five spice powder
  7. 1 large plum, finely chopped
  8. 1 tsp crushed black pepper
  9. 1/2 inch ginger, grated
  10. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In the cottage cheese add salt to taste, ginger, five spice powder and mix.
  2. Add bread crumbs gradually and mix. Make a soft dough which is smooth.
  3. Heat the oil.
  4. Take a very small portion of the dough and smoothen it to make a ball and tip it into the hot oil. If it fragments or scatters out, the dough needs more binding, else they are ready to get fried.
  5. Divide the dough into 15-16 equal portions. Make small balls.
  6. Roll the balls in cornstarch and then dip in water. The cornstarch adds another coat to the balls which prevents their breakage plus it helps absorb less oil too.
  7. Roll the balls in bread crumbs and then deep fry in hot oil on a medium to high flame till golden in colour.
  8. Remove on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil.
  9. Serve hot with Chinese Plum Sauce.
