Palong Chingri Ghonto (Shrimps with Spinach)

Ingredients to make Palong Chingri Ghonto (Shrimps with Spinach)

  • Panch phoron 1 tsp (Bengali five spice- fenugreek seeds, nigella seeds, mustard seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds)
  • dry red chili 1
  • Spinach 10-15 leaves ( cleaned and washed)
  • Shrimps 200 gms (de-veined)
  • Mustard oil 3 tbsp
  • Ginger paste 1/2 tsp
  • Green chili 1
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

How to make Palong Chingri Ghonto (Shrimps with Spinach)

  1. Marinate the shrimps with salt and turmeric powder.
  2. Shallow fry them and keep aside.
  3. In the same pan add remaining oil. Add dry red chili and panch phoron.
  4. Once the seeds start spluttering. Add spinach.
  5. Cook for a while. The spinach leaves will leave a lot of water.
  6. Add ginger paste and salt.
  7. Cook until the water evaporates well. Add the fried shrimps and give a good stir.

My Tip:

Use fresh spinach for better taste. Do not overcook the shrimps to avoid rubbery texture.
