Medu Vada (with white urad dal)

Ingredients to make Medu Vada (with white urad dal)

  • White urad dal : 1 small cup
  • rice (any type) : 3 tbsp If you want you can skip rice....but adding it will make Vada crispy
  • green chillies : 2 crushed
  • onion : 1 big size
  • ginger : 1 tsp grated
  • Kasuri methi : 2 tbsp
  • mustard seeds : 1 tbsp
  • red chilli powder to taste
  • salt to taste
  • coriander leaves

How to make Medu Vada (with white urad dal)

  1. Wash properly urad dal and rice together. Soak them for 2-3 hrs. Drain and beat it with very little water in mixer till smooth and fluffy.
  2. Pour the batter in bowl. The batter should be thick.
  3. Add chopped onions to it. Add grated ginger, mustard seeds, green chillies, kasuri methi, red chilli powder, salt and coriander leaves. Mix well.
  4. Heat oil in kadai. Take water in a bowl wet your hands and pour a spoonfull of batter in your hand. Make a hole in the center with wet finger.
  5. Now transfer it to your another wet hand and drop it in hot oil carefully.
  6. Deep fry it on slow for few mins..and then turn the flame on medium high till golden.

My Tip:

* if batter is not thick add 3 tbsp of rice flour and mix it well. ** don't keep the batter for more than 3 hrs.its taste will change
