Smokey Flavoured Dhaba Dal

Ingredients to make Smokey Flavoured Dhaba Dal

  • Toor daal 100 gm
  • Moong daal 50 gm
  • Masoor daal 50 gm
  • chana daal 50 gm
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • ghee 2 tbsp
  • Oinion chopped 1 cup
  • Grated tomato 1/2 cup
  • ginger, garlic & chilli paste 3 tbsp
  • hing 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 2 tsp
  • turmeric 1 tsp
  • salt as per taste
  • coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Kitchen king powder 1 tsp
  • Punjabi Garam masala 1 tsp
  • 2 cloves, 2 cardamom 1 cinnamon
  • coriander 3 tbsp
  • 1 piece coal

How to make Smokey Flavoured Dhaba Dal

  1. Soak all dals for 1 hour, then cook in cooker for 3 whistle.
  2. Heat oil & ghee, add Asafoetida, add chilli garlic ginger paste and cook. Add chopped onions, cook till brown. Add grated tomatoes. Cook well till oil comes out.
  3. Now add all spices like red chilli powder, turmeric, coriander powder, kitchen king powder and cook well. Add 1 cup of water.
  4. Add cooked dal, add salt & Lemon juice, cook on slow flame.
  5. Heat the coal on direct flame. When the coal starts burning, put in a small bowl, add cloves, cardamom & cinnamon on that. Put the bowl in center of dal, add 1 tsp of ghee. The coal will start releasing smoke.
  6. Cover the dal vessel with lid so that the smoke flavours the dal.
  7. Open the lid, remove the coal bowl from the dal, stir the dal, add coriander.
  8. Serve the smokey flavoured daal with butter roti or jeera rice.

My Tip:

Do not add the ghee that is used to burn the coal, remove the coal & bowl from dal with care.
