Ingredients to make Jaggery Rice (Gur Waley Chawal)

  • Cooked rice 3 cups
  • jaggery 3/4 Cup
  • cloves 4 to 5
  • cardamom pods 4
  • ghee 1 1/2 tbsp
  • almonds slivered 2 tbsp
  • water 3 to 4 tbsp

How to make Jaggery Rice (Gur Waley Chawal)

  1. In a pan, add ghee and melt the jaggery with little water.
  2. Add the cloves and cardamom as it thickens.
  3. Add almond slivers and the cooked rice now, mix well and leave it to simmer for 2 to 3 mins.
  4. Serve it hot or chilled as desired.
  5. When you cook rice, add cinnamon and caraway seeds to the water.
  6. It gives a nice aroma and flavour to the rice.
