Classic Fish and Chips

Ingredients to make Classic Fish and Chips

  • 2 large potatoes
  • 500 gm fish fillets
  • 1/2 cup wheat flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • oil for frying

How to make Classic Fish and Chips

  1. Place the potatoes in a medium sized bowl of cold water . After a while , cut them into strips/wedges .
  2. In another medium bowl , mix together wheat flour , baking powder , salt , black pepper and paprika . Stir in the milk and egg until the mixture is smooth .
  3. Let mixture stand for 20 mins .
  4. Preheat the oil in a large pot on high heat .
  5. Fry the potatoes and drain them out on paper towels .
  6. Coat the fish with the batter - one at a time and deep fry till they are golden brown
  7. Make sure to fry at medium - high heat .

My Tip:

Marinate the fillets overnight for best flavour.At least marinate for an hour. I have used wheat flour for a health kick .
