Tomato Chicken

Ingredients to make Tomato Chicken

  • chicken with bone 1 1/2 kg
  • Ripe tomatoes 1/2 a kg
  • onions large chopped 3
  • salt to taste
  • ginger Garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • chilli Powder 2 tbsp
  • turmeric 1 tsp
  • coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Deghi mirch powder 1 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tbsp
  • coriander leaves chopped a handful
  • oil 5-6 tbsp
  • mustard seeds 1 tbsp

How to make Tomato Chicken

  1. Clean and wash the chicken thoroughly and rub all the masalas into it including the salt. This marination helps in locking the flavours.
  2. Heat the oil in a deep cooking pot and add the mustard seeds. After they are done, saute the onions until light pink.
  3. As soon as the onions get done, add in the tomatoes and cook them covered until soft on low to medium flame.
  4. Now add the chicken into this and simmer it on low flame well covered. Do not add any water.
  5. Once done, check in the gravy. If you need a thin gravy, add some hot water accordingly.
  6. Garnish with lots of coriander and serve hot.

My Tip:

Mustard seeds here for this recipe is optional. I have made it both with and without them.
