Ingredients to make Panjabi shimla mirch aalloo ki sabzi (tangy capsicum and potato )

  • Green capsicum 6 medium size
  • potato 4 medium size
  • onion 1 large
  • ginger 1 inch piece
  • garlic 6 pods
  • tomato​ 4 large
  • salt 1 1/2 teaspoons or to taste
  • Green chilli 1
  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon or according to taste
  • turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Asafetoida a pinch
  • Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • tomato ketchup 2 tablespoons
  • mustard oil 2 tablespoons

How to make Panjabi shimla mirch aalloo ki sabzi (tangy capsicum and potato )

  1. First thinly slice capsicum and potatoes.
  2. Now cut onion, ginger , garlic, tomatoes roughly and put into a blender and make puree.
  3. Heat mustard oil in a pan till smoking point and add mustard seeds and asafoetida.
  4. When this starts spluttering add puree and roast till it leaves the oil.
  5. Now add salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and mix well. Add slitted green chilli.
  6. Add tomato ketchup and mix properly.
  7. Add chopped capsicum and potatoes. Mix it well.
  8. Cook it for 10 mintues with covered lid. Check it from time to time and turn .
  9. After 10 mintues your sabzi is ready sprinkle garam masala. And mix well garnish with coriander.
  10. Serve it with chapati or poori.

My Tip:

If masala is dry then put 2 tablespoons of water before mixing the chopped vegetables to masala.
