My grandmom who is from Kolkata used to make this for me every time we went for our summer vacations. Brings back old memories

Kachha Posto Bora

Ingredients to make Kachha Posto Bora

  • poppy seeds 1 and a 1/2 cups
  • onions 1 (medium finely chopped)
  • green chillies 4-6
  • mustard oil 1 tsp
  • water 1 cup
  • salt to taste

How to make Kachha Posto Bora

  1. Soak the poppy seeds in a cup of water for atleast 15mins. After 15mins, drain the water and grind the poppy seeds to make it a thick paste. The consistency should be not too thick nor too runny nor grainy.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions, the slit green chillies, salt and a few drops of mustard into the mixture. Mix it well.
  3. Heat mustard oil to smoking in a frying pan. Shape the fritter/ bora in a circular shape with your bare hands. Put it on hot pan and fry them over medium heat. Once the edges turn brown in colour, flip and cook the other side. Make sure that both the sides of the Fritter/Bora are cooked properly. the fritters should be golden Brown in colour.
  4. Serve it hot with steamed rice and daal.

My Tip:

Add a bit of ginger garlic paste to spice it up.
