Red lentil with raw mango (Bengali style tok-dal)

Ingredients to make Red lentil with raw mango (Bengali style tok-dal)

  • Red lentil: 1 cup
  • Raw mango: 1
  • Mustard seeds: 1 tsp
  • Dry red chili: 2-3
  • Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
  • Sugar: 4-6 tsp ( more to balance the sourness of the mango)
  • Green chilli as per taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard oil: 1 tbsp

How to make Red lentil with raw mango (Bengali style tok-dal)

  1. Wash the red lentil. Boil and cook till half done, keep aside.
  2. Peel and cut raw mango lengthwise. Marinate with salt and let rest for 5-10 min. As the mango pieces release water, discard the water.
  3. In a pan heat oil, when the oil is add mustard seeds, dry red chilli. As the mustard seeds splutters add turmeric powder, green chilies, raw mango. Mix well.
  4. Add half cooked masoor dal. Add salt, cook till done. Add sugar, water to thin the dal. Taste and adjust the amount of sugar to balance the sourness of mango. Serve with steamed rice.
