Chana Dal with Amaranth Leaves

Ingredients to make Chana Dal with Amaranth Leaves

  • Chana Dal or Bengal Gram 1 cup
  • Amaranth Leaves 2 bunches roughly chopped
  • Onion 1 big finely chopped
  • Garlic 3 pods finely chopped
  • Tamarind juice 2 tablespoon
  • Cumin Seed 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper powder 1 teaspoon
  • ghee 2 teaspoon

How to make Chana Dal with Amaranth Leaves

  1. Soak dal for 30 min and then pressure cook for 3 whistle adding salt as per taste and let the pressure settle down on its own
  2. Heat a wok and add ghee, cumin seeds and allow them to crackle
  3. Add finely chopped garlic and onions and fry until golden brown
  4. Now add turmeric powder into the masala
  5. Add pressure cooked dal and keep boiling on high heat for 10 min
  6. Lower the heat add amaranth leaves and simmer for 5 minutes
  7. Now add tamarind juice and simmer for 2 minutes
  8. Sprinkle pepper powder mix properly and remove from heat. Serve with steamed rice
My Tip: Mash some dal and make the gravy thick.
