ABOUT Asoka Halwa RECIPE

This Halwa is made from moong dal and quite famous in the temple town Thanjavur. No wedding in Thanjavur is complete without this Halwa

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 cups moong dal
  2. 2 cups sugar
  3. 2 cups ghee
  4. Pinch of cardamom
  5. 3 spoons wheat flour
  6. Cashews to decorate

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the moong dal for 4-5 whistles
  2. Take a pan and mix the cooked dal and sugar
  3. Stir this and add ghee one spoon at a time periodically
  4. Fry wheat in ghee and add to halwa.
  5. The halwa should cook in ghee
  6. When the ghee separates from the pan sauté cashews in ghee and add
  7. Add the cardamom powder and serve
