Ingredients to make Doi Maach (Fish in yogurt gravy)

  • 1/2 kg Rohu Fish washed
  • Yogurt 3/4 cup
  • Ghee 1/8 cup
  • Onin 1/4 cup
  • Black peppercorns 3to 4
  • Bay leaf 1
  • Green Cardamom 2
  • Cinamon 1/2 inch stick
  • Cloves 1
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger paste 1 1/2 tbsp
  • red chilli 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli 2 no.
  • Raisins 1/3 cup
  • salt as per taste

How to make Doi Maach (Fish in yogurt gravy)

  1. Combine 1/3 cup of yogurt and turmeric powder in a bowl.
  2. Marinate the fish with little salt and turmeric and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan and saute pan until 3/4 done and keep aside.
  4. Now in the remaining oil add clove,cardamom ,bay leaf,peppercorns ,cinnamon fry for few minutes.
  5. Add onion and ginger paste, fry till light brown.
  6. Now add little water and keep the flame low and then add whisk yogurt, green chilli, red chilly powder and some more water and cover the pan.
  7. after few minutes add fish fillet and cook for some more time until its done completely.
  8. Add salt and raisins and stir, mix well and serve with steam rice.
My Tip: Fry fish carefully on medium flame and dont overcook at first time. when adding curd, keep the flame low and add some water before adding curd otherwise it will curdle.
