ABOUT Dry Shrimps with raw mango / Sukat with kairi curry RECIPE

In coastal regions, small shrimps and routinely dried stored for use during rains. Any combination of this shrimp can be made to taste or rather, fisheterians use them for curry when fresh fish is not available and as add on / taste enhancer to various vegetables. This particular dish is one such combination of raw mango and shrimps, typically made during summers. You will love the tangy taste of raw mango amalgamated with fish flavours.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Dried shrimps 1 and half cups. Choose small and clean variety.
  2. Raw mango one medium sized
  3. onion 1 medium
  4. Tomato half
  5. Tempering: Asafotida, cumin and mustard seeds, curry leaves
  6. Ginger garlic paste 2 teaspoons
  7. Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Red chilly powder 1 teaspoon
  9. Malvan / chicken masala 1 teaspoon
  10. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut onion finely
  2. Cut tomato finely. We do not add much tomato as raw mango will give a sour taste to this curry
  3. Cut raw mango into vertical slices. Increase quantity of raw mango if you have less sour variety
  4. Clean and wash dry shrimps
  5. Heat oil in pan
  6. Add tempering
  7. Add onion and fry till translucent
  8. Add ginger garlic paste
  9. Add tomatoes and cook well till they turn soft
  10. Add dried shrimps and raw mango
  11. Add red chilly powder, turmeric, malvan masala and mix well
  12. Add some water to cook the curry
  13. Add salt to taste and mix well
  14. Cook till mangos turn soft
  15. Serve with rice or bhakari or chapati
