About Gosht Beliram....

Meat Beli Ram is a legendary delicacy from Punjab and it is said to have been prepared by a great chef Beli Ram . Beli Ram was supposed to have been the head chef in the kitchens of Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Patiala . Meat Beli Ram is a favourite that can be found on dhaba menus , specially along the highways of Punjab . There are no tomatoes added and the sourness comes from the yoghurt . If you feel like the yoghurt is not very strong , add a little more of it .

Ingredients to make Gosht Beliram....

  • Mutton (on the bone ) 500 gms
  • Salt to taste
  • Ginger paste - 100 gms
  • Garlic paste -100 gms
  • Turmeric - 2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 2 tbsp
  • Cumin powder - 1 tbsp
  • Red Chilli Powder - 2 Tsp
  • Kasoori methi powder - 2 tsp
  • Onions - 1 cup
  • Browned onions - 1 cup
  • Pounded coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
  • Pounded black pepper - 1 tbsp
  • Yoghurt - 500 gms
  • Small green chillies - 2
  • Oil - 200 ml

How to make Gosht Beliram....

  1. Peel and slice the onions .
  2. Whisk the yoghurt till it is smooth and creamy .
  3. Place mutton in a thick bottomed handi . Add all the ingredients and mix well .
  4. Keep aside to rest for 10 mins .
  5. Put the same handi on fire and cook till a boil comes .
  6. Now lower the heat and cover the mutton with a lid and slow cook till the mutton is tender .
  7. Serve hot with chapati .
My Tip: If you feel the dish is drying up , do add a little water or stock . The final appearance should be masala coating meat
