Ingredients to make Seeni Sambol ( Sri Lankan Sweet Spicy Onion Condiment)

  • 500 grams Onions
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Red chilli powder to taste
  • 1 Stick Cinnamon
  • 3 gree cardamoms
  • 7-8 Curry leaves
  • 4 tablespoon oil
  • 2 tablespoon tamarind juice

How to make Seeni Sambol ( Sri Lankan Sweet Spicy Onion Condiment)

  1. Slice the onions and keep all the ingredients ready.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves, cinnamon, green cardamoms crushed and chilli powder.
  3. Add the sliced onions, mix with the spices and let it cook for about 10mintues till the onions get reduced and change colour.
  4. Kindly make sure that the onions do not get burnt.
  5. Add the tamarind juice and salt to the onions and mix till the juice gets absorbed and the colour is deep brown.
  6. Adjust the seasoning and serve as a condiment in breakfast with flat bteads.
