ABOUT Paneer Kheer Or Chanar Payesh RECIPE

Paneer Kheer or Chanar Payesh is a very famous traditional and exceptional Bengali Sweet dish .Chanar means Paneer or Cottage cheese and Payesh is a Bengali word , it means kheer or milk pudding. The paneer Kheer has been flavored with cardamom powder and rose water. Cardamom powder and rose water give a nice flavored and beautiful rosy fragrance to the kheer.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Full cream milk - 3 cups
  2. Crumbled paneer - 1/2 cup
  3. Sugar - 5 - 6 tablespoons
  4. Green cardamom powder - 1 teaspoon
  5. Cashewnuts - 12 - 15 pieces crushed
  6. Almond chopped - 12 pieces
  7. Rose water - 1 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Cherries - 6 - 7 pieces

Instructions

  1. Take milk in a wide bottomed pan or sauce pan and keep it on stove top on a low to medium flame.
  2. While the milk comes to a boil, crumble the paneer and keep aside.
  3. When the milk comes to a boil, lower the flame and simmer the milk till it thickens a bit. Keep stirring the milk at intervals and then add sugar, continue to cook further for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir, add chopped dry fruits and cardamom powder for 1 - 2 minutes.
  5. Add crumble paneer ( you can also add grated paneer ).
  6. Simmer for 2 minutes on a low flame till the crumbled paneer gets cooked and then add rose water. Stir continuously.
  7. Serve Paneer kheer hot, warm or chilled. The Kheer can be had plain and they also taste good with pooris .
  8. Garnish the kheer with red cherries.
