Ingredients to make Maangai Pacchadi / Raw Mango dip- tamil new year special recipe

  • 1 raw mango peeled - cut in small cubes
  • 3/4 cup jaggery
  • 2 dried chillies
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Pinch of salt

How to make Maangai Pacchadi / Raw Mango dip- tamil new year special recipe

  1. In a kadai, heat the oil, temper the mustard seeds, dry red chillies, asafoetida and add the mango pieces and saute it till oil coats over the mango.
  2. Dissolve the jaggery in some hot water and filter it for any impurities.
  3. Add a pinch of salt, haldi and about 1/2 cup water and let the mangoes cook until soft.
  4. Now, add the jaggery water and let the mixture come to a rolling boil.
  5. After about 5-10 minutes, the mixture turns thick and saucy. Turn off the stove at this stage and let it cool down. The neem flowers if being used can be roasted in a spoon of ghee and added at this stage.

My Tip:

Grated raw mango can also be used. Store in a dry container and keep refrigerated.
