ABOUT Poornalu RECIPE

Traditional sweet made with channa dal and jaggery and dipped in riceflour batter and deep fried in oil.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Channa dal-1 cup( boiled and mashed in 2 cups water)
  2. Jaggery-1 cup( grated)
  3. Rice flour-1 cup
  4. Urid dal- 1 cup
  5. Cardamom powder- 1 tsp
  6. Ghee- 2 spoons ( to grease our palms)
  7. Oil- to deep fry

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker, add channa dal and water and pressure cook for 5 whistles.
  2. Mash it with spatula or use food processor.
  3. To this mashed channa dal add grated jaggery and cook in slow flame stirring in between in a non stick pan.
  4. Let it cool for 15 min and then make small balls in your palms( greased with ghee)
  5. Now prepare batter with urid dal and rice flour with 2 cups of water and leave it aside for 1 hour.
  6. When we are ready to serve, in a kadai add oil .
  7. When oil is smoking hot, dip these sweet balls in rice flour batter( add salt) and deep fry.
  8. When it gets golden brown colour, we can take out and place in paper towels to remove excess oil.
