Ingredients to make Beet Wine Chocolate Cake (Vegan)

  • Ingredients (Dry)- 1 and 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • ¾ cup mineral sugar or unrefined sugar or white sugar (powdered)
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Ingredients (Wet) -1 cup of beet wine
  • 5 teaspoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup jam (preferably strawberry, but any jam will do)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

How to make Beet Wine Chocolate Cake (Vegan)

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line and grease one 6 and 1/2 inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients except the sugar. (Sift cocoa powder to remove lumps)
  3. In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients and sugar together.
  4. Now add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and stir gently till it is well combined. Do not over mix.
  5. Pour this batter into the prepared pan. Bake it for 50 -55 minutes or till the cake shrinks from the sides and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove from the pan after 5 minutes. Cool in the rack. Slice next day.

My Tip:

I have used home made beet wine to make this cake. You may use red wine. If you want a light crumb, use all-purpose flour in place of whole wheat flour.
