About Chutta Vaazhakka Podi Recipe

This is a simple but very healthy recipe, in which raw banana(vaazhakka) is shown in direct flame and ground with a few more roasted ingredients to get a powder(podi). This can be consumed by mixing with hot rice and little gingelly oil, or with idli/dosa/other tiffins. You can even sprinkle a tsp or more of this podi while making any poriyal!!

Ingredients to make Chutta Vaazhakka Podi

  • Raw banana 1
  • urad dal 1/4 cup
  • Dried red chilli 3
  • garlic 5 to 6
  • Dry ginger a medium size piece
  • hing little
  • tamarind gooseberry size
  • salt as req.
  • coconut oil little

How to make Chutta Vaazhakka Podi

  1. Cook the raw banana with skin in direct flame until all the sides are very well cooked.
  2. When cooled, peel the skin and chop the raw banana into small pieces.
  3. In a pan, pour oil and add urad dal, dried red chilli, garlic, dry ginger, and saute until well roasted.
  4. When the mix is cooled, add it to the blender along with hing, salt, and tamarind, and pulse a few times to get a powder like consistency.
  5. Now open the lid, add the raw banana pieces, and again pulse a few times till the raw banana is ground. Be careful not to grind too much, else the mix will become a paste. That's it. The dish is ready to be served!!

My Tip:

Adjust spiciness as per your taste. You can also skip oil while roasting.
