About Plastic Chutney( Green Papaya and Raisins Chutney) Recipe

Plastic chutney would be made by my mother whenever green papaya would do rounds of our house and especially after a wholehearted Bengali meal.

Plastic Chutney( Green Papaya and Raisins Chutney)

Ingredients to make Plastic Chutney( Green Papaya and Raisins Chutney)

  • Green papaya 500gm
  • ginger half inch
  • lemon juice 1 tbsp
  • Refined oil 1 tsp
  • mustard seeds one fourth tsp
  • Dried red chilli one
  • raisins a handful
  • sugar 2 cups
  • water 1 cup

How to make Plastic Chutney( Green Papaya and Raisins Chutney)

  1. Peel and grate the green papaya.
  2. Make a sugar syrup with the sugar and water
  3. Heat oil and add mustard seeds and the dried red chilli.
  4. Once it splutters, add the grated papaya and stir for a few minutes.
  5. Add the sugar syrup and boil.
  6. After about 5 mins the papaya becomes translucent
  7. Add the raisins, grated ginger and give it a boil.
  8. Add the lemon juice and turn off the gas.
  9. Serve chilled.

My Tip:

The translucent look of the green papaya gives the name plastic chutney. Add a little cornflour if you like to thicken it.
