Mag ni Dal ni Khichdi

Ingredients to make Mag ni Dal ni Khichdi

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup Split Green gram(Mung dal, split)
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
  • Chilli powder to taste
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt to taste

How to make Mag ni Dal ni Khichdi

  1. Combine the picked green gram and rice and soak together for 30-40 minutes.
  2. Heat ghee over low flame in a pressure cooker, add the Cinnamon stick, bay leaf, turmeric and black pepper. Next add in the soaked rice and dal.Saute briefly.
  3. Season with salt and red chilli powder, next add 4-5 cups of water.
  4. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  5. Serve with more ghee on top, some buttermilk, pickle and papad on the side.
