The Nanaimo bar is one of the popular dessert item of Canadian origin. It is a bar dessert which requires no baking and is named after the city of Nanaimo, British Columbia on Vancouver Island. These bars are absolutely delicious and heavenly in taste

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. For the base
  2. 60 g semi sweet chocolate chopped
  3. 1 cup desiccated coconut
  4. 120 g soft butter
  5. 2tbsp sugar
  6. 2 cups honey crackers(biscuits) crumbs
  7. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  8. 1 egg
  9. For the Center (filling)
  10. 120 g soft butter
  11. 4 tbsp custard powder
  12. 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  13. 4 cups powdered sugar
  14. 6 tbsp milk
  15. For Top layer
  16. 120 g semi sweet or dark chocolate chopped
  17. 4 tbsp soft butter

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate using double boiler or microwave method, keep stirring every 30 seconds, until the chocolate is almost melted. Continue to stir until it is completely melted.
  2. Add the butter, granulated sugar, vanilla, egg, cracker crumbs and dessicated coconut and mix well. Press evenly into a 9x13 inch pan and chill for 20 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter for the filling. Add the custard powder, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla and beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Spread the filling evenly over the chilled base. Chill for another 15-20 minutes.
  4. For Top layer: Melt semi-sweet chocolate and the butter using double boiler or microwave method, stirring every 30 seconds until the chocolate is almost melted. Continue stirring until it is completely melted.
  5. Spread evenly over the chilled custard layer. Chill for 6-7 hours or overnight.
  6. Cut into bars and store covered in the refrigerator for a week, or remove from the pan and freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Delicious Nanaimo bars are ready. Serve cold
