Ingredients to make Shagan di khichdi ( grandma style)

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/4 cup chana dal /bengal gram soaked in water for 20 minutes
  • 1 small size cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Ghee / clarified butter 1 tbsp
  • salt as per taste
  • water about 2 cups

How to make Shagan di khichdi ( grandma style)

  1. First drain all water from chana dal and keep it aside.
  2. Take a big vessel , add ghee/clarified butter when ghee is getting hot add cumin seeds . When seeds starts to crackle add cinnemon stick .
  3. Now add chana dal and washed rice . Now add 2 cups water . Add salt as per taste . Cook until rice cooked properly. Chana dal khichdi is ready . Serve hot with dollops of ghee or curd.
