Machli ka Saalan

Ingredients to make Machli ka Saalan

  • 6-8 centre pieces of Rawas
  • 1/2 dry coconut
  • 2-3 ripe tomatoes
  • 2-3 wet or dry kokum pieces
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp sesame white
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp red chilli kashmiri powder
  • 1 tsp cumin and coriander powder
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp wheat flour
  • curry leaves a few
  • coriander leaves for garnish

How to make Machli ka Saalan

  1. Clean the fish, wash well, apply salt and keep aside.
  2. Chop or grate tomatoes and keep aside.
  3. Make a paste of poppy seeds, dry coconut and sesame seeds.
  4. Heat oil in a pot, add curry leaves, coconut paste and stir fry.
  5. Add in the tomatoes grated and stir well. Add salt, red chillies powder and turmeric.
  6. Add a little flour and roast this mix on a low heat. Add a little water.
  7. Simmer the curry, add kokum. Let this curry cook well for 10-15 minutes, add in the fish pieces after washing off the salt applied.
  8. Cook for 10 minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice.

nice recepie Sana. just a question. will Fish be cooked properly after adding both Tomato and Kokam. I m asking this as generally we add source after vege cooked. I have not cooked fish this way since long as in between I had stopped Sea food. And my "Aaji" used to cook this curry. so just b 4 trying .....
