Ingredients to make Surmai Fish fry

  • Surmai fish 10 pieces cleaned and cut pieces
  • For fish masala powder:
  • Whole red chillies 10
  • 1 tbsp whole zeera
  • 1 tbsp whole corriander
  • 1/4 tsp saunf whole
  • 1/4 tsp whole rai
  • For marination:
  • Fish masala powder 1 1/2 tbsp full
  • salt 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1 small tsp
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • water 2 tbsp
  • oil 1 tbsp (for marination)
  • oil for frying

How to make Surmai Fish fry

  1. For fish masala powder: Roast all the ingredients together and grind them all together.
  2. For marination: In fish pieces add fish masala powder, salt, turmeric powder, oil, lemon juice, water and marinate. Keep in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, shallow fry the fish until cooked. Serve hot.

My Tip:

Marinate the fish pieces well and make sure the fish does not break. You can also grill the fish instead of shallow frying it. We usually make fish masala in kilos. Store and keep.
