Gatte rice

Ingredients to make Gatte rice

  • besan 1 cup
  • yoghurt 2 tbsp
  • red chilli flakes 1 tsp
  • Dried methi leaves 1 tbsp
  • cumin powder 1 tsp
  • ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • Ajwain 1/2 tsp
  • oil 1 tbsp
  • water to knead dough
  • peas 1 cup
  • onions sliced 1 medium
  • cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • bay leaves 2
  • cinnamon stick 1"
  • oil / ghee 3-4 tbsp
  • curry leaves 7-8
  • green chillies slit in halves 3
  • salt to taste

How to make Gatte rice

  1. Make a dough with besan, methi leaves, ajwain, cumin powder, Ginger garlic paste,chilli flakes,salt and yoghurt adding little water.
  2. Then give them shape of a finger.
  3. Boil about 4-5 cups of water ,add the besan dough fingers in it.
  4. When they begin to float that means it is done ,take them out of water and let cool.
  5. Cut gatte in pieces as desired.
  6. Heat oil ,add cumin seeds,bay and curry leaves,cinnamon,green chilli, onions,peas saute for Five to seven minutes. Add sliced gatte saute for five minutes.
  7. Now add rice, water and salt after a boil cover and cook at low heat till done.

My Tip:

After slicing gatte.. you can deep fry them for crispy texture.
