About Fish Masala

Spicy fish preparation for any fish. Fish Masala is a Kerala styled fish curry made with a lot of spices and tomato. This fish curry is more similar to Meat based Curries and is very flavorful and aromatic. The gravy is rich and tasty as Coconut Milk is used. Initially the fish is marinated in a lot of flavorful spices so that they penetrate inside and give the fish a very strong taste. A curry is prepared used fresh spices like curry leaves, coriander, Kashmiri chili etc. The fish is then added to the curry and kept aside for some time so that the fish gets mingled up with the curry so as to give it a very smooth an rich texture. It tastes great when served with roti or rice.

Fish Masala

Ingredients to make Fish Masala

  • Fish of your choice - 8 pieces, if big one.
  • Big onion, 2
  • Green chillies 2
  • Just crush 10 small onions, 5 garlic & a piece of ginger together.
  • coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder 2 tsp or according to taste
  • Turmeric 1/4 tsp & salt as per taste
  • Garam masala a pinch
  • 1 tsp tamarind pulp
  • Tomato 3

How to make Fish Masala

  1. Marinate fish with a little chilli powder, turmeric, salt & lemon juice 1 tsp.
  2. Then shallow fry them on both sides. In the same oil, add crushed things, fry well. Then add onions & curry leaves. Add some more oil, if needed.
  3. Fry and then add tomatoes, along with chilli, coriander powder. Add a pinch of garam masala, if you prefer.
  4. Add a little water, when everything is well blended, add fish pieces tamarind pulp. Adjust seasoning. Cover with a lid & cook for 5 more mins.

My Tip:

Use boneless fish or less bony fishes.
