Ingredients to make Simple puffed PURI from whole wheat flour

  • Whole wheat flour 2 cup
  • asafoetida a pinch
  • salt a pinch
  • water 1 1/4 cup or as required
  • oil for Deep frying

How to make Simple puffed PURI from whole wheat flour

  1. Take a big bowl add in whole wheat flour, asafoetida and salt mix properly .
  2. Add water little by little to make medium tight dough.
  3. I used water around 1 1/4 cup but it might differ depending on the quality of the flour so add it little by little while kneading.
  4. Cover the dough with wet muslin cloth and keep it aside for 10 min.
  5. Again knead the dough well for 2-3 min . The dough should not stick in your hand.
  6. Keep this dough in air tight container inside the fridge for 20 min.
  7. Take out the dough from fridge and divide the dough into 12 equal tennis size balls
  8. Roll out into small circle not too thin nor too thick.
  9. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai.
  10. When the oil is sufficiently hot not too hot drop the puri one at a time and fry gently pressing down with the frying spoon.
  11. Turn over when puffed up and fry the puri till golden brown in medium high flame.
  12. Serve hot with your favourite dish like aloo gobhi, matar paneer etc

My Tip:

Do the oil heating test to see if it is ready. Drop a small piece of dough into the oil the dough should fry up immediately and come to the surface of oil. If you want you can add 1tsp of oil while kneading the flour.
