Ingredients to make Peyajkoli Komola Murgi (Chicken with Oranges and Onion Stalks)

  • 400 g chicken drumsticks
  • 2 bundles of peyajkoli / green onion stalks
  • 2 oranges peeled and the segments separated
  • 2 tbsp yogurt whipped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 3 onion finely sliced
  • 2 tsp ginger paste
  • 2-3 whole dry red chillies
  • 2-3 bay leaves
  • 11/2 tbsp mustard oil
  • salt to taste

How to make Peyajkoli Komola Murgi (Chicken with Oranges and Onion Stalks)

  1. Marinate the chicken with yogurt, ginger paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, a little salt and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours.
  2. Cut the onion stalks to 11/2 inch long pieces. Keep aside.
  3. Heat oil, temper with whole dry red chilies and bay leaves. When the spices start to release their aroma, throw in the sliced onions, fry till light brown.
  4. Now add the marinated chicken and cook over a low to medium heat till the chicken is about 75% cooked.
  5. Add the onion stalks and the orange segments, stir in the green chili paste, sprinkle in the salt.
  6. Continue to cook over a medium flame till the onion stalks and chicken are tender.
  7. Add 1/3 cup of warm water, throw in a couple of green chillies, give it a good stir. Cook over a low flame for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Serve hot.
