Spinach Mixed Dal

Ingredients to make Spinach Mixed Dal

  • Arhar / Toor dal - 1/2 Cup
  • Moong dal - 1/4 Cup
  • Masoor dal - 1/4 Cup
  • Spinach, chopped - 1 Cup
  • Peanuts - 15
  • Butter / ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Whole dry chilli - 1
  • Curry leaves - 10
  • Tomato large - 1, chopped
  • Garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Hing / Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - 1/4 Cup
  • Salt to taste

How to make Spinach Mixed Dal

  1. Wash all the daals and put them in the pressure cooker with three cups of water, spinach and peanuts. Cook on slow flame till 3 whistles.
  2. Open the cooker once the pressure releases. Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard and cumin seeds. When the seedscrackle add curry leaves, whole red chilies, asafoetida and garlic paste. Saute till brown.
  3. Add tomatoes and saute well then add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, mix well.
  4. Now add cooked dal and add 2 cup water and a little more salt if needed. Cook for five minutes.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

My Tip:

Dal must be cooked well, if you want to skip ghee or butter then use oil.
