About Sunnundalu - Urad dal laddu Recipe

Sunnundalu - urad dal laddu is a very traditional sweet in Andhra. It is traditionally made during festivals, marriages, baby showers. This laddu is considered as a healthy and energy giving sweet.

Sunnundalu - Urad dal laddu

Ingredients to make Sunnundalu - Urad dal laddu

  • urad dal- 2 cups
  • sugar- 1 and 1/2 cup
  • cardamom- 3
  • Ghee or clarified butter- 1 cup

How to make Sunnundalu - Urad dal laddu

  1. Heat a heavy-bottomed pan and fry the urad dal till they turn into a golden brown colour on a medium to low flame. Stir continuously. Then set aside to cool.
  2. Take the cardamom seeds and add it with sugar, then grind them together into a fine powder and set aside. Also grind the fried urad dal into a coarse powder. ( It should be sand like.)
  3. Remove and mix it with sugar and cardamom mixture to combine everything well together.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan, then little by little pour this into the dal and sugar mixture to make laddus.
  5. Store in a airtight container as this laddus will stay for months.

My Tip:

If you like can use grated jaggery instead of sugar but sugar gives a great taste.
