A wonderful accompaniment to Chapati and Poori.

Aloo Matar Masala

Ingredients to make Aloo Matar Masala

  • potato : 2
  • Green peas : 1 cup
  • onion : 1
  • tomato : 1
  • Green chilli : 3
  • chana dal : 2 teaspoons
  • mustard : 1 teaspoon
  • curry leaves : 10
  • garlic : 5 pods
  • turmeric powder : 1/2 teaspoon
  • jeera powder : 1 teaspoon
  • besan : 2 tablespoons
  • oil : 2 tablespoons
  • salt : to taste

How to make Aloo Matar Masala

  1. Boil and mash potatoes.
  2. Soak chana dal and green peas in water for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a kadaai and add mustard and curry leaves.
  4. When the mustard splutters add garlic, onion and green chillies. Sauté.
  5. Once the onion becomes transparent, add finely chopped tomatoes and let cook.
  6. Add turmeric and jeera powder. Mix well.
  7. Add the mashed potatoes, green peas and chana dal.
  8. Pour 1 cup of water and mix well.
  9. Close the kadaai with a lid and keep on low flame for 3-4 minutes.
  10. Dissolve the gram flour into 1/2 cup of water and mix it with the potato masala.
  11. Let cook on high flame for 2 minutes.
  12. Once the mixture gets thick, switch off the flame.
  13. Aloo matar masala is ready to serve.

My Tip:

Can also be used as a filling for Masala Dosa.
