Moongori (Moong Dal Pakoras)

Ingredients to make Moongori (Moong Dal Pakoras)

  • Yellow moong dal(soaked overnight) 300 gms
  • salt as per taste
  • red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Dry mango powder (Amchoor) - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  • coriander leaves a few - Optional
  • green chillies 1 - 2 (Optional)

How to make Moongori (Moong Dal Pakoras)

  1. Soak the yellow moong dal overnight.
  2. Rinse it thoroughly and then put it in a mixer/blender. Do not add water.
  3. Blend it into a coarse paste. There may be some pieces of dal but it only adds to the crispiness.
  4. Add all the spices, coriander leaves and mix.
  5. Put a wok on gas and pour in the oil for frying.
  6. Once the oil is hot, slide in the batter slowly with your hands into the hot oil very carefully.
  7. Fry them till golden.
  8. Serve them hot with sauce or chutney.

My Tip:

Add the spices only when you are ready to make the moongoras as the salt will release water in the paste. You can add onions, green chillies in the paste. I made them without these as my mother-in-law cannot eat spicy food. Make sure the paste is coarse and not fine as the moongoras will not be crispy.
