Masoor Masala Bhat

Ingredients to make Masoor Masala Bhat

  • Rice - 1 Cup
  • Masoor, soaked - 1 Cup
  • Onion, chopped - 2
  • Garlic, crushed - 2 tsp
  • Ginger, grated - 1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 2 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Curd - 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves, finely chopped - 2 tsp
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
  • Khada masala - for seasoning
  • Zeera - 1 tsp

How to make Masoor Masala Bhat

  1. Heat ghee in a pan, add khada masala, let it splutter. Add zeera and then rice.
  2. Saute till get brown color. Add hot water and salt. Stir and cook covered.
  3. In a nonstick pressure pan heat oil, add chopped onions, saute them then add ginger and garlic.
  4. Add dhania powder, garam masala, turmeric and chili powder.
  5. Saute and add masoor along with hot water just enough to cook masoor. Cover the lid and pressure cook.
  6. Till then rice will be ready. Cool the cooker, add curd to the masoor and add to the rice.
  7. Mix and cook covered together for 3 to 4 minutes.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
My Tip: Be careful not to overcook Masoor. You also can pressure cook rice and masoor together with all masala.
