How to make Valentine's chocolate cake

  1. For making the red cake:
  2. Preheat oven to 170 degrees and grease a loaf pan preferably a 9inch
  3. Cream butter and sugar together with a hand mixer for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy. Add eggs one after the other and mix until incorporated.
  4. Sieve the flour and baking powder and fold in. Mix until it comes together. Lastly add few drops of food colouring to achieve desired colour.
  5. Pour batter into the loaf tin and bake for about 45-50 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Cool in ten for 10 minutes, invert on wire rack and cool further
  7. Put this cake in the fridge on cooling for few minutes to minimise crumbs when we cut into it later
  8. When sufficiently cooled, just before starting the chocolate cake, slice the red loaf in about 2 inch slices. Using a heart shaped cutter, cut 1 heart shape from each slice.
  9. For chocolate cake:
  10. Preheat oven to 170 degrees and grease the loaf tin
  11. Whisk flour salt and cocoa powder together.
  12. With a hand mixer, mix the butter, sugar and vanilla
  13. Add eggs one at a time and beat until fluffy
  14. Add the flour mixture and boiling water and continue beating for 1 minute until all combined
  15. Pour 1/3 batter into the loaf tin and smooth out with a spatula
  16. Arrange hearts with the pointed end downloads back to back with each other avoiding any gaps
  17. Pour the remaining chocolate cake batter around and over these hearts to have them completely covered
  18. Bake for 1 hour until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
  19. Cool cake completely before slicing with a sharp knife
  20. See the surprise in your loved ones eyes

My Tip:

Freeze the hearts for ten minutes if they are too moist or if you are in a hurry. add chocolate glaze if needed on top
